SOURCE Cloves are native to a group of islands in Indonesia called the Maluku Islands. Today, Cloves are harvested mainly in India, Indonesia, Madagascar, Zanzibar, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Cloves are also an internationally used spice.ORIGIN   The word Clove comes from the Latin 'Clavus' meaning nail for its resemblance to ancient nails. PRINCIPLE CONSTITUENTS  The Clove Bud Essential Oil contains 79% Eugenol in its chemical makeup. The rest of the oil is made up of chemicals that only show up in trace amounts.HISTORY  Cloves and Nutmeg were the most precious spices in the 16th and 17th centuries. They were worth more than their weight in gold even.
