BOTANICAL PORTRAIT Virginian Cedarwood differs from Himalayan Cedarwood most notably in height as it only grows to a height of about 33 meters. It has a reddish color (hence why it is also known as Red Cedar) to the bark and bears brown cones on its branches. Cedarwood is a member of the Cupressaceous family. SOURCEAs the name suggests, Virginian Cedarwood is primarily grown in Virginia, however, it can also grow through most parts of Southeastern USA as well as some southern parts of Canada and along the Eastern Seaboard of the USA.ORIGINVirginian Cedarwood was used by the Native Americans for many uses including medicinally and aromatically as the aroma of the plant is very pleasant. PRINCIPLE CONSTITUENTS Virginian Cedarwood contains 28% Cedrol and 24% Thujopsenene. It is also composed of cedrene and widdrol. HISTORY Native Americans would make a concoction of the twigs and branches of the Virginian Cedarwood Tree to combat a myriad of ailments such as venereal warts, kidney infections, menstrual delay, rheumatism, etc. Its most effective property is its insect and vermin repellent qualities.
