BOTANICAL PORTRAIT Oregano is a very bushy herb that reaches about 35 in. tall at its peak with an erect and hairy stem. Oregano has dark green oval leaves and a pinkish-purple flower. Oregano is very commonly found in many peoples personal gardens and has a very strong smell when the leaves are bruised. SOURCE  Native to Europe, the Oregano Herb is produced all over the world today and is produced as an Essential Oil primarily in Russia, Bulgaria and Italy.ORIGIN Though known as a wonderful culinary herb, Oregano was also used for its medical purposes, traditionally to help digestion and clear airways in the respiratory system making it easier to breathe. PRINCIPLE  CONSTITUENTS Oregano's chemical constituents consist of 39.45% carvacrol with the rest of the chemical makeup being other trace chemicals. HISTORY Oregano derives from the Greek phrase for ‘Joy of the Mountains’, only married couples were crowned with Oregano and wreaths of Oregano were placed on graves to give peace to spirits.
SKIN CARE Because of its analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, the Oregano Essential Oil can be used to treat itches and skin infections that can cause irritation as well as aiding to heal cuts and other wounds on the body. RESPIRATORY SYSTEM When used in aromatherapy, the Oregano Essential Oil can help the body breathe easier and more deeply when symptoms of bronchitis, colds, the flu and other respiratory ailments restrict breathing. COSMETICThe lovely Oregano Essential Oil has a wonderful aroma that can be used as a perfume and is often a component in men’s cologne to add a wonderful aromatic tinge to it.
