Peru Balsam contains chemicals like benzoic and cinnamic acid. HISTORY Imported from Callao via Peru, this plant was called Peru Balsam even though it is not necessarily native to Peru. Acclaimed Spanish Physician and Botanist Nicolas Monardes knew about it during the fifteenth century. The plant was first officially documented in German Pharmacopoeia.
